OH DEAR. Pauline tripped over early one Saturday morning and broke her right hand fingers 4 & 5. They are slowly healing but the planting, weeding, picking and packing have been a bit of a nightmare. After 4 months the progress is slow and picking still a problem.

Saturday Market Produce
We have reasonable quantities of Tender stem broccoli and small amounts of green beans and turnips. There are still a few eggplants and capsicums. Courgettes are producing well and we expect them to continue to produce until the beginning of June. Tor is picking tree ripened avocado and our fresh new season walnuts are in good supply. This year we have an improved washing and drying process which has improved the quality. Fresh New Zealand walnuts are quite different from some of the stale ones availble in the supermarkets. Our late potatoes are not quite ready to dig but expect some more within a fortnight.

During the  week our chooks have enjoying the large quantities of weeds we have pulled out of the garden. We give them wheelbarrow loads morning and afternoon. We are now selling FREE RANGE EGGS graded into JUMBO as well as MIXED GRADE. Look for our new trays of 20 extra large eggs. These are a great deal for families. Our chooks get to wander about the paddocks eating grass and generally playing out in the sun. Their shed is large and draft-free to keep them warm with an indoor space to play during the wet weather. Tor has spent the week fluffing up the nests with lovely new dry hay. We have some new chooks laying those cute little eggs so look out for these on the stall. They are perfect for poaching.

GARDEN BLOG

We are planting plenty of Tender Stems Broccolini along with a large garden of broad beans for Spring production. We are also planting peas, cauliflower, broccoflower, pakchoi, lettuce, leeks and spring onion.

We are side dressing all plants with chicken manure and some aged sheep pellets.

Remember to get your dried aged CHICKEN MANURE from us. It will not burn your plants and will be soaked up through the roots as they grow in these wetter days. Great organic soil and plant food.

SEEDS. We buy all our seeds from the local seed merchant Kings Seeds. Check them out online at Click Here or visit them on friday morning at 189 Wharawhara Road, Katikati.
