Hello and welcome to my official website.
Im Mahe, an athlete in the sport of Rowing and 2012 Olympic Champion in the single scull. I have trained full time since 2001 and can honestly say I love my job. There are always tough times and things you hate doing, but overall it's a pretty awesome existence.
I have proudly represented New Zealand at eight World Championships and three Olympic Games. 2003 and 2004 I raced in the coxless four before switching to the single scull. Since switching to the single I have won five World Championship titles (2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011), a World Championship Silver (2010), Olympic Bronze (2008) and became the Olympic Champion in London 2012.
Since the 2012 Olympics I have been on sabbatical, testing myself out with new challenges such as coast to coast and Ironman as well travelling around the country and the world. It has been a lot of fun. I am now back in the boat, set for another challenge! Rio in just over two years time. You can find out more about me by visiting the “About Mahé” link above or Click Here
The fourteen years hasn’t all been smooth sailing. I have had to deal with a back injury and continuing problems with Osteo-Arthritis in my back. Had three bike crashes (one 6 weeks out from the Olympics). Despite the hurdles and set backs I still managed to achieve my life long dream by winning gold in London.
While I race alone on the water, there is a huge amount of people that form my team to get me the results I have been fortunate enough to achieve. This website has been designed to keep all those people up to date with what's happening, how I'm going, as well as provide some facts and information about who I am and what I do.
